Mouse problems
I am new to FreeBSD, BSD in general actually, and I am having problems.
Doesn't seem to be much documentation however. I am on FreeBSD 7.0 i386. My mouse is a USB Razer Copperhead. With the mouse settings on configuration I can't get it to show a mouse pointer what-so-ever except when I use the first settings, but that's only for a tenth of second and then the pointer disappears.. so what do I do? Thanks for any help that can be given. -dctr |

The mouse pointer only displays in the console, then it disappears in the desktop/windows manager? Check out phoenix's post:

when I type 'startx' the mouse doesn't respond, I know how to get to the conf files, but I don't understand well enough how to edit them... weird transition coming from Xubuntu to FreeBSD, I guess I'll get to installing nano later.. but until then how do I edit the configuration files after I "vi /usr/etc/rc.conf" <think thats the directory.. Is there a ums0 device being loaded at boot? (hint: dmesg )
On my new machine, I had to go into the BIOS and disable Legacy USB Support to get my mouse to be detected on boot. Otherwise, it would only work if I unplugged/plugged it in while the machine was running. Don't ask me why it worked, I just read it in a forum post by a guy who had no idea why it worked . I've got an old USB Logitech mouse, and an ASUS P5K SE motherboard FYI. Note that once in a blue moon my mouse still wigs out, and then I have to replug it. A bit annoying, but it's infrequent enough that it doesn't bother me |
