Post HP Pavilion DV6 & sound?

No sound, but everything else seems to be working.

I have a Pavilion dv6 (Canadian model), where the display and wifi (athn driver) work perfectly. Only 3.5Gigs are recognized, but after reading the earlier threads - no worries.
  • I'm wondering if perhaps the audio might work better if I ran i386?
  • Also wondering what the benefits of running amd64, as opposed to i386 - (i.e. only 3.5 Gigs are seen)...

Cheers,
Guy

P.S. Here's the specs of the laptop and I've included dmesg, mixerctl, audioctl, sysctl and a quick spec list if it might help someone else out there in inter-land...

A better question would ask "Might sound work if I ran -current?"

Depending upon how much time you want to spend chasing sound, I would think this would be a more productive direction. OpenBSD 4.8 was tagged in CVS at the beginning of August. There have been over three months of continued development separating 4.8 & -current.

Be forewarned that the developers have been chasing HP hardware of late. Hewlett-Packard apparently is known for repeatedly not following standards in hardware construction, so sound may or may not eventually work.

Maybe you can explain what audio issues you're having, and what you've tried, it seems azalia(4) devices are configured in all sorts of exotic ways.. you may have to play with mixerctl to configure it properly.

If you were perhaps pointing out the failed attachment, that's for ATI's HDMI port, and it's unsupported by OpenBSD on all machines currently (..audio passthrough anyway, video unknown).

Here is your sound card, and it appears to be at least attaching properly:
azalia1 at pci0 dev 20 function 2 "ATI SBx00 HD Audio" rev 0x00: apic 4 int 16 (irq 4)
azalia1: codecs: IDT 92HD75B3/4
audio0 at azalia1

Good luck, and nice system.. memory over > 4G is not yet supported, although is a toggle in the source if you like playing with fire.
