Thanks, yeah, I never liked LaTeX and fortunately never had to use it.

It seems so easy, there's no need for Lyx, after all :-).

So finally, it took 1264m56.32s to install Lyx and, on amd64, libmagic is not mandatory. I built it again with your changes, jggimi, and it worked too (many thanks for your help).

So, what's next? Powerpc and sparc64 have both a package for Lyx. I guess that this update needs to be tested on these architectures now, and who decides to commit it if it works?

Well then you have to make a decision. It's not ok to leave off libmagic if configure will automatically pick it up. Either make explicit the LDEP on libmagic or disable libmagic being picked up (this is likely a CONFIGURE_ARGS setting). I would suggest you make the LDEP on libmagic since it's a small library and available everywhere unless you have a good reason not to.

One of us (the developers). But not me, since I don't use Lyx.

I think jggimi was right to add it as a dependency, and he already posted this to ports@.

By starting over, I just wanted to make sure that I didn't miss something, because I didn't have the same error jggimi ran into when using only my diffs.
I asked before if there was a need to send a new e-mail with both changes to make it clearer. If you think this is the case, I'll do it.

I noticed your port update was committed, and will become part of 5.8 later this year. Congratulations!

Yes, thanks to you, Ibara and Landry!

It took a lot of reading, and even though the Porter's Handbook is very helpful, it's not always easy to figure out what and where modifications are needed, especially when you're not used to compile software.
But it is definitely a nice reward to see this update adopted.

I think a new Lyx version is not far away, so I should play with all this again pretty soon.
