Default OpenBSD 5.0 and Current i386 buggy acpi tables

In am trying to use OpenBSD in an Everex 1500 Stepnote laptop. Installation went fine but on booting, the /bsd kernel, it hangs at acpiprt4. I have tried both 5.0 and current

I have tried using ukc to disable acpi0 which leads to a kernel panic
Code:
panic: no isa bus
I also tried disabling mpbios which still hangs at acpiprt4

I was going to try fiddling with changing acpi0 in ukc but the only configurable values that come up are bus [-1] and flags [0x0]. I do not have the foggiest idea what are reasonable bus numbers or flags to try and did not get much enlightenment with the man pages for acpi.

The phoenix bios itself does not have any acpi configurations options

Is this a lost cause? I can still run Debian Squeeze/Arch on the system but had the sense that was a good time to install current.

  1. Did you report this to misc@? I can't recall seeing a recent report quite like this, and you'd have several orders of magnitude more people to help you there. Your problem might be circumventable, or fixable, and the vastly larger audience may be of value.
  2. It appears that your ISA bus is dependent on having ACPI present. If so, I wonder what a dmesg would show from a working kernel -- perhaps a bsd.rd dmesg might be useful, since that should have an ISA bus attachment.

Ah, one more thing to try: using "verbose" at the UKC> prompt. You might see something at the hang that provides a useful hint -- there might be a message about something after acpiprt4, for example.

ACPI must be a drop dead requirement for that hardware infrastructure, as the chain is
Code:
root -> mainbus0 -> pci0 -> pcib0 -> isa0

@jggimi
Thanks for the diagram. I think I have some insight regarding the hierarchy/dependencies of the device drivers and will now consider this a lost cause and move on to FreeBSD

Default OpenBSD i386 buggy acpi tables

Sorry for reviving an old thread but as of July 8, 2014, OpenBSD 5.5current now runs on this gutless wonder.
The bios had a bogus interupt
Quote:
Changes made between OpenBSD 5.5 and -current

If acpi(4) finds a bogus interrupt, don't panic but print a message, to workaround dodgy BIOS.
