Default HTML5 kicked into 2014 : Another three years of crushing hype

From http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/02/14/html5_in_2014/

Quote:
HTML5 won't be finished for another three years, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has warned.

On Monday, the standards body said that it has extended the charter of its group hammering out HTML5, with plans to advance the proposed spec to last-call status in May. Then we wait – for three years.

The group gave as the reason the fact that it is developing a comprehensive test suite "to achieve broad interoperability for the full specification by 2014, the target date for Recommendation."

Hardly hype. All of the web sites my company develops uses portions of HTML5. It's based on implementations that are already in some browsers and not invention and there must be at least two complete implementations in browsers before it will be finalized. Hence, while everyone is comfortable using CSS2.1 today, it still has not been finalized.

I know of no developer who stays on top of things who does not use HTML5 and CSS3 as we do. The only thing holding us back from using more is Internet Explorer which has always held back the web from progress.
