Default A sane way to keep pkg src updated?

I'm looking for a sane way to keep my src packages updated with the proper tools the NetBSD wiki recommended some. But the choices are more than one recommended way for a rather beginner user as myself using pkgsrc for the first time ever. What is a recommended trial tested way to painlessly update a desktop like XFCE .
