Backup over the wire
Because USB3 is just Taking Too Long, I built a backup server to back up to over the wire, and this is well. I'm using dump(8) and ssh(1) to do this, and it's OK.
What might be OKer would be the backlup server knew the schedule and woke up workstation(s) to be backed up, did backups, and shut them down if they weren't already running at backup time, and itself down in any case. I believe this could be done with a backup user in the operator group, but I have slight heebie jeebies about passwordless private keys to avoid computers wanting me to type at 0300 local. What you say you, Knights of the Pufferfish? |
