How are you attempting to create a thread?

From the home page, http://daemonforums.com/:
  1. Go to whichever subforum you wish to start a new thread, ie. NetBSD General.
  2. To the upper left of the table displaying all thread titles, is an elliptical button labeled "New Thread".
  3. Pressing this button should display a new page entitled "Post New Thread". At the top will be a single line edit box labeled "Title", followed by the large multi-line edit box labeled "Message" for the text of your post.
If you can provide more information as to the error you are experiencing, we will attempt to resolve the matter. This is only the second report of someone new mentioning an issue with starting a new thread.

hi ocicat i tried replying to your PM but it doesn't give me that option when i click on ur name or view ur profile... and there is no "reply" option either, only "reply all"

this is the message i get when i try to make a new thread:
Welcome to Daemonforums foxgirl88, we hope you enjoy your stay.
Unfortunately, we have put some restrictions on new users in order to combat spambots, you can read about the restrictions here:
(had to ommitt url coz 1. You are only allowed to post URLs once you have at least 5 posts.)

and this is the message i get when i try to "reply all" to your PM
foxgirl88, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

i've tried manually clicking ur name, viewing your profile etc etc... but i wasn't able to PM you.

sorry for posting it here, its the only place where my messages can get through lol >.<

New users cannot send PM's. This is an unfortunate restriction we had to put in place because occasionally a spambot would register and start sending spam-PM's out to members ... Obviously not something we want.

For the same reason URL's are not allowed, it does help prevent some spambots from posting (Because they can't deal with the error) or at the very least help limit the damage.

These restrictions will be lifted when:
A user has posted 5 posts AND has been registered for at least a day.
OR
Has been registered for 5 days AND has made at least 1 post

Whichever comes first.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused

Two possible routes:
  • If I can have your permission, I will change the password of your account & log in myself to see what I can find.
  • Or, you could simply create another account.
To date, I have found nothing which possibly can be a root cause given the limited information received (which may not be your fault...)..

as a reply to J65nko's PM due to the fact i can't reply back..

ok, i understand that you have some big problems with spambots, but keep in mind that not all new users are spambots. you PM wasn't a very good welcome message for me.. i'm new to this forum and i can't read all topics in just a hour. and indeed, i wanted to make 5 posts to put a damn avatar.

bye!

The mistake a lot of new users make is trying to quickly get 5 posts under their belts instead of taking the time to read, become familiar with the community, perhaps help out other new users who have posted a question (..if you can).

Not sure what problem you have you J65nko, but this is the wrong place to put it.

i don't have a problem with him or anybody. he's just doing his job. i have a problem with too many restrictions around here.

if this is the wrong place where to put it, where can i? this thread it's about restrictions on new users, and i have something to say about it..

an administrator can ask for configs in a screenshots thread, but a new user can't. daemonforums.org/showpost.php?p=35102&postcount=123

I don't agree... The question about setup in the screenshots thread is something different. Many users like to know some nice settings for example.
