Default speed pkg_add netbsd vs. freebsd

I was just wondering if there are some big differences in how pkg_add retrieves the files in netbsd compared to freebsd.
The reason is I'm wondering is because it seems like it takes forever to get the files with netbsd. I probably do not mean transfer rate, since I use the same mirror.

Are the files in netbsd broken down and written to /var/tmp/pkg.10220e etc and then merged. What is going on?
