Can't turn mixerctl all the way down
On OpenBSD 4.8 release with a ICH4 AC97 card I can't turn down outputs.hp all the way. It goes down to 131,131 but no further.
# mixerctl outputs.hp=1 outputs.hp: 131,131 -> 131,131 I've tried all other outputs in mixerctl but none change the volume, just hp and hp.mute. Any ideas? |

Perhaps you haven't read it, or perhaps you have. Either way, it is worth repeating what is stated in Section 13.1 of the official FAQ: Quote:
As for options:

Yep I've read that and as I stated no other outputs in mixerctl have any effect besides hp and hp.mute.
I was thinking about updating to current to see if it was fixed too, but I had some problems when I went current before because I was using packages that were looking for a different version of Xlib (or something similar). Makes sense. My question is, is there a way to go current without using ports? Or have I got this all backwards? |

...only if you don't need any application which is in the packages/port system.
As discussed in Section 15.4.1 of the FAQ, mixing versions of the installed operating system with different versions of the packages/ports system is not recommended nor supported. If you do decide to upgrade, please take the time to study:

Awesome! Thanks for the help guys! I'm going current!

Going current is easy. Make sure you read:
http://www.openbsd.org/faq/current.html For changes you should be aware of, and be sure to run sysmerge -s http://<your.mirror>/pub/OpenBSD/snapshots/<arch>/etcXX.tgz and then once that's complete, run: pkg_add -u That'll ensure everything is in order as long as you grab everything from the same mirror. |
