Default Ex-org? Not at all! Three and a half years after X.Org Server 1.20, 1.21 is released

From https://www.theregister.com/2021/10/28/x_org_1_21/ :

Version 21.1.0 of the X.Org Server has been fully rolled out, with just one fix since the release candidate, but it is still notable as the first major version for three and a half years for a project that was thought to be near-abandoned.

The future of the X Server project looked bleak in 2020 when long-term project maintainer Adam Jackson said it was near-abandoned and that "using it to drive your display hardware and multiplex your input devices is choosing to make your life worse."

Now new maintainer Povilas Kanapickas has announced "the final release of X Server 21.1. There has been just one fix since the second RC and at this time there are no known regressions since the 1.20 release series."
You don't need to be a genius to debug a pf.conf firewall ruleset, you just need the guts to run tcpdump

Article compiles quite good set of comments.I would add that major Linux desktop environments such as KDE and Gnome (including GTK+) focus more on polishing Wayland sessions than X.Org sessions. I bet in coming next 3 years (or less) KDE Wayland session will be much more stable for most use-cases of typical end-users than X.Org session.
Signature: Furthermore, I consider that systemd must be destroyed.
