I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 and it does okay except for the Realtek rtl8192e wireless card. As far as I know it won't work on any Unix based system.

Zyos, the dmesg(8) output provided does not appear to be complete.

As for Realtek support, the output of the following command:

$ man -k realtek

...does not indicate that the RTL8192E chipset is supported.

BTW, welcome to our community!

Let me fix that, although I can't delete or edit the other post yet.

Hey all... first post here. Got 5.0 running on a Dell Latitude D620. Still getting some usability stuff worked out (all small things I can fix with google and daemonforums). On my other boxes I've run Ubuntu almost exclusively. The lack of bloatware is different but awesome.

Acer 5742Z here, working pretty well. I haven't tried the wireless yet.

The basics all seem to work well enough under XFCE4, OpenBSD 5.

running current on Dell Latitude D420 upgraded with a 2Gb dimm, a second internal wireless adapter (intel), a docking station, bluetooth (and a new keyboard b/c of beer spill, puffy loves beer hehe). Everything works except IR and FireWire. I'm running i386 current for two years as far as i recall, today with rthreads, the fixed Intel graphics xenocara driver and the ram upgrade this notebook is a beast, small, lightweight and great looking. APM works like a charm, i'm noticing that both the 6 and 9 cell batteries die faster than other os'es but then hey no scientific testing has been done as i don't care. just to rant a bit, i've never seen the urge to use gnome, kde or anything bloated and i've been using scrotwm which now is spectrwm and it's rock solid. Browser side, it's a pity no lightweight browser is available, all require gtk or some sort of bloated library, so i've been using chrome which is bloated anyway (100mb of memory per tab :/)... i'm doing alot of dev on the puffy beast, currently it's running bleeding edge mongodb, redis, node, python, sqlite, io, lua and nginx and a look at systat (oh i love systat) makes me really proud of OpenBSD. Only problem is flash, but i make it a point not to run flash, also webm on chrome plays with no sound. No time to waste on videos anyway. Bottom line and to stay on topic, if you can find a d420 in a good shape don't hesitate, they are well made (except a moronic problem with the three wire charger security carrier over the Dallas 2501 chip so handle plugging and unplugging with care). Well that's it, it was fun to write this up as it's been a while I wanted to write some kudos for OpenBSD

Peace

Default dmesg on the way

I'm a geek, and well, i love geeky things. So after a few months of messing around i have put together a laptop that looks a bit like something from the movie HACKERS (1995)

I can tell you for now, my current specs are:

Laptop model: Toshiba Portege 7000CT
Pentium 2 @ 2.67Mhz
RAM : 160MB
Wifi: BWI-Airforce Driver compiled from source (WORKS PERFECTLY! Even monitor mode)

modified motd

using i3 as my window manager, even under intense workload, no lag whatsoever

i have custom drawn keyboard keys, which i soon hope to replace with my own alphabet (i dont need a number row! just the symbols on the top row!)

sorry the pictures are so big, i can shrink them in photobucket on request.

dmesg:

Just got a shiny new HP Elitebook Folio 9470m.

Had a bit of a rough time installing, as it has no optical drive. My first attempt at installing via USB drive failed at the USB drive itself. Since my office has a FOG server, I put the ISO up there and installed via PXE/RAMDisk.

The first boot after that, it couldn't find /bsd. After some investigation, it seems that bsd.tgz and etc.tgz had failed to install. Third time the charm and I've got XFCE, Firefox, and starting to install other pkgs

@pcronin: Congrat's on the new laptop! Question: did it come with Windows 8 and if so any issues disabling secure boot? TIA.

The driver supports Synaptics and ALPS touchpads for certain and likely ElanTech.

It would be easy to test by enabling a parameter (tap to click is not enabled by default) which I think you can do directly from the command line. An example is here

Edit: I looked at your dmesg and the touchpad driver is not being recognized

Yet it sounds like it is recognized. Can you do two finger scrolling ?(enable by default) on most touch pads?

it had win 7 preloaded. All I did was the ol' install OBSD on a USB stick and boot from the bsd.rd on there. Didn't have any secure boot that I noticed.

I have current i386 from 07 May 2013 installed on my HP EliteBook 2560p.
Almost everything work fine, except for:
1) No sound in headphones, laptop speakers work just fine;
2) Keyboard does not work after waking up from suspend;
3) Overall slowness of system (Comparing to Fedora 18, installed on the same laptop). Youtube's HTML5 videos in Firefox work, but if you make it fullscreen, or do a pause/play, sound and video start become stutter;

Will update post with dmesg soon.

Hi guys I run a Lenovo X200 and everything works perfectly, suspend and resume, multi-media keys, wireless etc.

I am thinking of upgrading to an X230, can anyone confirm if all the issues have been resolved in 5.3? Most of the information online about this laptop seems to be pre 5.3.

Maybe I should get a dell xps 13 instead?

When it comes to compatibility questions, searching the misc@ archives will provide the most comprehensive information.

Oh except for that last little diddy there. apm is working well enough, I've got it to sleep when I close the laptop lid and when I hit the power button, however, if the laptop runs dry it will always mark the file systems as unclean - I've got a cron job ready to go that might run every five minutes and shutdown if there's less than ten minutes of battery life, but I'm not sure that will run if the system is sleeping/hibernating any ideas?

Cool Power Management

Okay, so my biggest problem isn't with openbsd. It's my battery being old, inconsistent, and not giving much more than an hour of time to work with. So, I tested the apm options and here's what I came up with:

Quote:
apm -Z
Hibernate:
looks like it works, but fails to boot at unhibernating and marks the filesystems unclean.

Quote:
apm -S
Standby (Light Sleep):
works, but I put the system to sleep and pulled the battery, fsck ran automatically, yet complained significantly.

Quote:
apm -z
Suspend:
This is the default function on closing the laptop lid and incidentally works the best - recovers the quickest after removing the battery. Fsck still must do it's thing, but it is a far less invasive affair.

My cron job checks apm -m every nine minutes, at <20 minutes it will suspend and at < 10 it will halt with a five minute warning.

Ideal I think.

Default Lenovo E520 looks good

Lenovo E520 working beautifully as a desktop with OpenBSD 5.3 amd64!
Using fluxbox and cwm.
Wireless not tested, since I don't use it.
