Which version of skype did you install?
What error do you get when you run skype as a normal user? Which version of FreeBSD are you running? Make sure you have linprocfs mounted, IIRC skype needs this. Which version of linux_base do you have installed? What is sysctl compat.linux.osrelease set to? This matters for some version of skype.

Check the permissions of /usr/local/bin/skype and /usr/local/share/skype/skype
% ls -l /usr/local/bin/skype /usr/local/share/skype/skype Both files should be executable, if they are not already executable: # chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/skype /usr/local/share/skype/skype

The 'a' means 'all', so instead of chmod ugo+x, one can say chmod a+x.
