Maybe. Maybe not.

That page is still in very active development, and subject to additional changes, so that date shown may still be revised. You can follow the revisions to that page, other Project web pages, and to the OS by subscribing to the source-changes@ mailing list.

I've noticed that 6.0 was just tagged in CVS. This happened today or yesterday.

Assuming that the release is actually finalized -- as additional release engineering might still required -- I expect that it will still take weeks to months to send CD images for manufacture and then arrange global distribution. September does seem aggressive, based on that alone.

If the release is separated from CD publication, then September is possible. Some of the slower architectures can take a month to build their release package sets.

The date has been confirmed. Either there is a much more rapid CD pressing process in place, or the CDs are no longer a critical dependency for release.

Pre-orders for OpenBSD 6.0 have been activated by Theo on the project's Webpage! More information can be found at the OpenBSD Store.

I certainly agree with you. It looks possessed. Really awful choice.

Maybe a better date for the poster/release would be October 31...

I think it's a wonderful poster! But, I must admit, it does have a certain air of "get the fuck away from my operating system before I bite your face off, newb!" about it...

It is intended to be a pastiche of the theatrical release poster of Pink Floyd's The Wall.

Obviously. The font used on the poster was a dead give-away. I'm sure many people will love it, although personally I prefer the more light-hearted comic book style designs.

It seems the release themes are veering away from movie homages to music homages lately. We've had the Beatles, Pink Floyd. Perhaps the next one will be again rock-oriented:

Puffs n'Roses - POSIX city

Take me down to the POSIX city
Where the stack is clean and the libs are pretty
Take me $HOME (oh won't you please take me $HOME)
...

I know it's suppose to be a puffer fish, but with the red trailing off the left, I immediately thought it looked like the Dilophosaurus that attacked Wayne Knight's character in Jurassic Park.

Personally ,as somebody who likes death and black metal music, I like the way this poster looks like. There should be more dead bodies, though.
It would be nice if there will be a cover of some OpenBSD's songs (death metal style) with growling vocalist.

OpenBSD 6.0 was released today. And, this will be the last release on CD.
