hidden 16 partition and tphdisk
After all I decided to stick to OpenBSD.
During install I created a hidden partition for suspend to disk. My installed memory is 4096M, so I did in fdisk a partition of 5120M (5G) which I thought would be far enough. First problem: after formatting it according to the tphdisk short "howto", using df -h it shows as 4G and not 5G of size, but the thing I understand less is it says it has 1.4G used, that is 35%. What's using this space? I need to make a file big enough for suspend, and now there's no space left. I hope I don't need to reformat everything and calculate a 35% of space lost in this partition. Do I? |

As usual, gosha, you have neglected to provide information needed for anyone help you. Let's start with the obvious, basic questions, first:

Bios and suspend issues are very new and quite difficult to understand for me, although I had a look on some explanations (for example on Wikipedia) I still find all very confusing. As you make me note, my Thinkpad x200 does not seem to have a Phoenix bios, so all I did I guess is useless. Does it mean my hidden partition is also useless? How does suspend to disk actually work? Will it suspend to a system file? How do I find out? I did have look for information, but could not find anything better than "apm works out of the box" "fn+f4 works out of the box", which does not for me. also, on this site you have some installation guides, but all linux related: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Instal..._ThinkPad_X200 I had followed this "howto" http://www.teuton.org/~ejm/t42p/index.shtml probably foolishly since it is about another model. And followed the instruction of the thpdisk. But now I guess this is all useless. Now, maybe I should open another thread for this, please tell me if I should. Here is what I would like to work: fn+f4 to suspend to ram fn+f12 to suspend to disk How does suspend to disk work exactly? I mean, does suspend to disk always need a hidden partition or will it work on system files? How do I find out? If suspend to disk is not working at all I would be fine with having only suspend to ram, but pressing fn+f4 does nothing, and typing Code:
zzz Code:
zzz -S Code:
Suspending system I enabled apm at boot time with Code:
ampd_flags=" -C" Code:
Performance adjustment mode: cool running (1600 Mhz) Code:

I had an answer from misc@openbsd.org and it appears that suspend is not supported, but that a couple of devs are working on it
Let's hope for 4.6 |

After all this, I'm asking myself: is suspend/resume that important? Maybe to carry around a laptop it's still better to switch it off. I'll have to learn how to tell ion to start which apps in which workspace in which window, so that it will be similar to a resume. |
