Thanks J65nko !
how sad & ironic when grandiose perl the hackers language par excellence is on the lowest rank .. why in your opinion ?? |
|
|||
in this table , python seems to sink deeper than perl .. vb and sql are thriving .. I need somebody's help to explain the first table .. is it microsoft hegemonism ? is it the easygoing happy-go-lucky herd ? ......

Being ranked tenth out of fifty isn't so dire.

http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/conte...pci/index.html The original report ranks fifty languages. More focus is placed on the top twenty. Lastly, don't consider the results of this survey as definitive. It is merely representative. Not all programmers were asked for their evaluation, so the results do not necessarily reflect reality. Having said that, one can take away the general trend of the marketplace. In particular, there isn't significant market demand for PL/I programmers anymore (although I endured PL/I while in school...). I also do not understand why Logo is even mentioned, but hey, grade school kids can have their language of choice too. |

oh thanks Ocicat !!!
c# sql vb vb.net -----> microsoft .. java ----> sun .. objective-c ----> apple as long as there is silicon there is unix and daemons .. C .. and Perl .. Ocicat .. if you're asked to choose between perl & php .. which one would be your favorite (practically) ? |

While there is overlap between both Perl & PHP in terms of the problem space they attempt to solve, PHP is more oriented to implementing Websites -- both at the front-end & back-end.
Perl is more general purpose, & was conceived to address a much larger problem space. |

thanks for your quick reply ..
Thanks to minitube I've downloaded a few beginner tutorials from scriptsocket channel .. plus some other interesting tutos from bjornulf2011 channel .. I know many of you hackers warn against perl for newbies but I can't help it .. it rules almost everywhere .. regex/general sys admin+cgi+networking ....... one can't be unix without being perlishly perlish .. |
