OpenSMTPd will be the default Mail Transfer Agent in OpenBSD 5.6
From the OpenBSD Journal:
Quote:
Code:
2014/03/12 - smtpd becomes default MTA The default system MTA is now smtpd. If you are running sendmail with anything other than the default configuration, please exercise caution and care when upgrading. The sendmail cronjob should be disabled, /etc/mailer.conf and /etc/rc.conf{,local} should be checked to verify one and only one MTA is enabled, and newaliases run. crontab -e vi /etc/mailer.conf vi /etc/rc.conf vi /etc/rc.conf.local newaliases Last edited by jggimi; 13th March 2014 at 01:44 PM. |

I've been using OpenSMTPD on OpenBSD for months and really like it.
It is so much easier to configure than Sendmail with all of its macros and pieces everywhere. Last edited by comet--berkeley; 19th March 2014 at 05:54 AM. Reason: grammar |

I've been using OpenSMTPD since 4.6 or 4.7 I believe. I don't think it was 4.8. Anyway, it runs great and I've never had any problems. Compared to Sendmail it is a blessing.
My only wish is that I could get it to build on Solaris. I've posted to the mailing list but apparently nobody there cares. I've moved my mail server from a physical OpenBSD server to OpenBSD in a kvm on SmartOS. So I'd really like to get it working natively on Solaris. But it works fine if it must stay as it is now. |

Did you post to the misc@ for OpenBSD, or the misc@ for OpenSMTPd? The latter is where portable versions are discussed. I couldn't find a Solaris discussion in a mail archive for it just now.

I posted at misc@ for OpenSMTPD. I realize it was rather vague because I couldn't get past one problem with Berkely DB, but I managed to get past that hurdle and ran into another which I don't recall at the moment.
I might try building it again and post the errors I'm getting with the hope that someone can point me in a direction to get it built natively on Solaris (illumos kernel - SmartOS). |
