Thinkpad W541, dock and multiple monitors
Hi,
It looks like my Google-Fu has failed me. I have a Thinkpad W541 connected to a Lenovo docking station with two external monitors plugged into the dock via DisplayPort connections. I have this working in Linux and in Windows and I'd like to get the external monitors working in OpenBSD. Unfortunately, even when I boot with the laptop in the docking station, I see "disconnected" listed next to the two DP-* entries in xrandr. I'd really appreciate any help folks here can provide. I'm not running any "custom" Xorg.conf and below are my dmesg and my /var/log/Xorg.0.log files. Thanks for any help folks can provide! I switched the "Dock Mode" setting from "Advanced" to "Standard". This UEFI setting determines which GPU powers the dock video ports (discrete or integrated). From that I was able to get all three monitors lighting up (built-in and the two 4k monitors attached to the dock). GDM locked up on me though. Next step is to boot -s into single user mode, turn of GDM and try to fire up CWM via the command-line and see if it's a GDM problem or if I need to tweak my Xorg.conf settings somewhat. I really appreciate the nudge! If I figure this out, I'll post any config changes I have to make to get it all working. |

I have W541 spare at work, the BIOS I have you cannot disable Nvidia. And from searching and talking with People at work, Nvidia is used on External Monitors. But Intel when not connected to another monitor.
Since a work PC, I cannot try OpenBSD so I do not know what other issues can occur. But I would think you should be fine using it as a "laptop". |

It turned out that this setting (dock mode != advanced) worked great. I have all three monitors (the two external and the laptop screen) working. Unfortunately GDM is giving me grief on a multi-monitor setup but every other DE I tried works just fine. Thanks again to @jggimi for his helpful suggestion.
