That's how the various window manager developers want it. You should ask them.

If you want that behavior, just use -ls as described in the xterm(1) man page.

Nor did I. Years ago I heard a version of this story, and since then, I try not to remember anything I can look up.

{ I'm not darwinist but I do believe that an organ which stops working is gonna become weak or even dead .. Mnemosyne (governing the past .. analepsis) .. as much as Reason (the now) & Speculation (future) .. all three form the mind .. today because there are lost of alternative registers (phone,agenda,pc,Netdrive,cloud,..) that are within easy reach our ability to remember things is getting waker & weaker .. }

My objective, here, was only to politely suggest that you, just like me, could use the man pages to find out about tools and services on our systems.

A lot of developers spent a great deal of time writing them. Let's take advantage of their kind generosity.

Thanks again ! & Thanks to those great hackers behind the scenes !
{I was commenting Eisntein's story :
It’s said that one day a colleague of the famous scientist Dr. Albert Einstein asked him for his phone number. The colleague became perplexed when he watched Einstein grab a phone book to look it up. Baffled, the colleague asked, “You don’t know your own phone number?” Einstein replied, “Of course not! … Why would I remember anything I can look up?” }
& I mean mainly short-term memory which is being weakened as more 'cyber-memories' are taking up the role :-)
