Default Arch BSD: Arch Linux Atop The FreeBSD Kernel

From http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...tem&px=MTI4MTk

Quote:
The Arch BSD operating system is moving forward, an attempt at a BSD platform that's inspired by the Arch Linux distribution and using its package-set.

An email arrived at Phoronix this morning that the ArchBSD.net web-site is now online. This new site looks just like ArchLinux.org, but Linux references are replaced by BSD. Right now there isn't too much information available on Arch BSD, but the news from this week states that a test ISO should be available shortly.

Arch had initscripts for system configuration but has recently migrated to systemd. This will make the project a challenge. FreeBSD has not fully recovered from hal.

It would be nice to see the pacman package manager applied to a BSD although FreeBSD pkgng seems to have many of pacman's features

Odd, I always thought the redeeming nature of Arch was the Linux kernel. What does Arch bring to the table that the FreeBSD userland doesn't already have?

I agree.

The BSD license is one of the main features of FreeBSD.

For me, adding GNU licensed code to FreeBSD takes away value, it does not add value.

On the other hand if GNU licensed code owners want to submit their code to the FreeBSD project under a BSD license, then I say code away...

According to http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread...333#post206333 it will not only use the FreeBSD kernel, but also the FreeBSD base system/userland.
