Meh this rather sucks.
Perhaps USB-attached magnetic disk or USB-attached SSD would help with USB performance.

I unfortunately don't have any of those, nor really the money to get one. I'll see whether NetBSD does better once I can manage a download of that size again (maybe early next month or so), but if it doesn't I guess I'll have to revert to Linux again...
