Default freshports.org

Are the ports at this site for FreeBSD or OpenBSD or both?
Thanks,
Darryl

Linux is not UNIX! Face it! It is not an insult. It is fact: GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”.

With respect to OpenBSD, several additional points need to be clear when interpreting the information presented on http://openports.se/:
  • Recognize that the ports mentioned on OpenPorts are those in OpenBSD's -current branch, & not necessarily those available for -release. The history of check-in's shown at the bottom of each port's page should be studied to determine what version is available for -release & -stable if either of these is the OpenBSD flavor installed.
  • If you are unfamiliar with OpenBSD's flavors, study Section 5.1 of the official FAQ.
  • Likewise, do not fall into the trap of thinking that packages compiled for -current can be installed on either -release or -stable. This is discussed in Section 15.3.2 of the FAQ.
As an example, OpenPorts will state that Firefox 8.0.1 is available for OpenBSD. This is true only for -current. The package for 8.0.1 cannot be run on OpenBSD 5.0-release. For those wanting to run Firefox 8.0.1, they will need to first install or upgrade to -current first.

Default Looking on openports.se for apache

Found an apache reference but can't find the package to download for OpenBSD, a lot of other ambiguous items but nothing completely straight forward. I know this is a basic question but find it hard to believe it would be so difficult to find - even with glasses on.
Thank you for any assistance
Darryl

The page you may be looking for is www/apache-httpd, & the package for -release & -current is apache-httpd-2.2.20.

Again, recognize that the OpenPorts site is specific to -current. The versions discussed there may be newer than those available for -release.

Also, given that you have not disclosed which version or flavor of OpenBSD you have installed, Apache 1.3+ is already installed on your system due to its inclusion in the base installation.

There are alternatives to searching the http://openports.se/ site:
  • You can install the ports tree & perform searches on it with the tools discussed in Section 15.3.4 of the FAQ along with the ports(7) manpage.
  • You can also manually search through the ports tree using the CVS Web interface mentioned on the project's homepage. The relevant page you will want to navigate to is:

    http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/ports/
  • Lastly, you can always connect to one of the mirror sites & perform searches on package names in the appropriate directory. For the i386 platform, this would be:

    /pub/OpenBSD/5.1/packages/i386

...assuming you have OpenBSD 5.1-release or -stable installed.
