Kernel freezes on boot after install (OpenBSD 5.0 release)
Hi All,
I have just installed OpenBSD 5.0 release onto a server machine and the kernel freezes on boot (see dmesg below) for both the bsd & bsd.mp kernels. The bsd.rd kernel boots perfectly fine. While attempting some basic troubleshooting (i'm new to openbsd) I found that if the bios0 driver is disabled the kernel boots ok. I tried to re-enable the bios0 driver the and apply some of the flag settings mentioned in the man page but the kernel continued to freeze. I've also tried to disable the acpi driver however then a chain of other upstream drivers freeze including the isa driver. I've captured the following dmesg output by redirecting the console output to a terminal. Please let me know if you need a verbose output? Code:

Lodged Bug Report
Hi,
Thankyou for your quick response. I had a good look at the mailing lists and appreciated your link to OpenBSD 5.0 snapshots - I was under the false impression i'd have to compile from source and couldn't believe how simple it was to install the current release. Yet unfortunately the issue is still occuring and i've lodged a bug report via email. I will also attempt to install the i386 version of openbsd on the machine. Thanks for your help and in the meantime if there are any more ideas please let me know. Cheers, Grant |

There are many inconsistencies between ACPI implementations and this seems to be the problem, so try disabling ACPI:
1) Enter the User Kernel Configurator: boot> boot -c 2) Disable ACPI: UKC> disable acpi UKC> exit |

I have tried disabling acpi but the kernel then freezes at the mtrr driver instead.
