Default Lightspark open source Flash player gains PowerPC support

From http://www.h-online.com/open/news/it...t-1156547.html

Quote:
Less than one week after Lightspark 0.4.5 arrived, the Lightspark project has released version 0.4.5.1 of its open source Flash player. A major change in the latest version of the alternative Flash player implementation is the addition of experimental support for the PPC platform, previously confirmed to be coming in early November.

Any opinions on how this might compare to gnash or swfdec as a future possible way to view flash sites on OpenBSD?

This statement makes me unhopeful for my own uses in the near future, but maybe for others it will work well: "A new, clean, codebase exploiting multithreading and optimized for modern hardware."

My hardware is not modern and unless I'm mistaken it will be some time yet before rthreads support is stable and complete on powerpc (my main computer for now). I rather need something optimized for old hardware that's select based, I think. Or more probably I'll keep using youtube-dl.

I believe this is the one using the llvm backend? not really sure if it's a more suitable replacement for gnash.. swfdec is dead, btw.

My wonder is how does it compare to Flash 10 in capability, and how portable between unix systems is the code.

It breaks. I downloaded the source and started building it on my G4 iMac under debian lenny.
The build process complains about a missing parenthesis- "paren" as it is referred to in the output- but even adding one seems to do nothing.
The porn gods are very displeased.

So, does gnash not work on powerpc? I would have figured it to be easier to port.

Also, there are plenty of places to get porn on the Interwebs without Flash, keep looking.

I've done extensive research on the subject.

The porn thing is a joke.
Nope, gnash doesn't work on it good enough to bother.
If the source code won't build on debian, you can be assured that it won't on a BSD system.
I do have a question for you:
If I want a higher resolution and need to build Xenocara, is it current + current xenocara or release + xenocara?

You should probably start a thread for that. I believe it's the former.
