Default Wireless NIC for access point

My current gateway uses an Atheros-based wifi card (ath driver) to run my wireless AP, but I frequently get "stuck beacon" messages and corresponding awful performance until I reboot. Does anyone have suggestions for a PCI card that just works? Thanks in advance.
