Default Dropbox surprise – deleted files magically reappear after several years

A few days ago some Dropbox users experienced something rather unusual – the files and folders they deleted years ago reappeared in Dropbox synchronised folders.

Dozens of users reported this strange phenomenon on Dropbox forums.

So a 'free' cloud service, doesn't delete user data, when it says it does... considering their history it's unsurprising.

An online storage service is not compatible with security...

I use one. Tarsnap. It gets a collection of what appear as random ones and zeros from my servers every day. If anyone steals the data, or intercepts it while in transit, they can have my random ones and zeros.

If any agency forces them to divulge the data, I suppose they can sort through the bits and put them in different boxes. They could put the zeros in a green box and the ones in a blue box. But they certainly could not turn those bits into information.
