broken link in root dir after installation
I noticed the broken symlink /sys in my root dir after installing OpenBSD 6.5. Does anyone know when and why this link was created? Does it serve any purpose post-installation?

It's a symbolic link to /usr/src/sys, the home of kernel source code. If you don't have the source installed, the link will be inoperative.
