Default Multiple instances of Opera

I'm wondering why are there multiple instances of Opera that are running when I use `top' or `htop'? Most of the time I can see four of it.

What's the rationale behind it?

I can't answer your question, but I see the same thing with linux-opera (and 'ps' as well as 'top'). I don't recall seeing that with the FreeBSD binary, but I don't have any i386 machines with Opera any more to check that. Are you running linux-opera as well?

Only 1 for me running FBSD7 i386 with Opera 9.51 (Which looks totally sweet by the way)
this is with about 18 tabs open.

in my case, starting linux-opera (FBSD 7-STABLE amd64, FWIW) creates 3 opera processes. visiting a page with flash content creates 3 operapluginwrapper processes and one more for operaplugincleaner.

Yes, I'm using linux-opera too. I haven't been able to make the native FreeBSD build of Opera to use flash to work. :-(

then I guess the next question is whether opera run under linux exhibits this behaviour as well. I would assume it does (and if so, the answer to ebzzry's original question would presumably be "because that's how it is under linux"), but does anyone here have a linux box to check with?

Yup, just tried it--have this page open and playing a youtube video gives me three instances. Closing the youtube page, the 3 instances remain. The extra two are the plugin cleaner and libflashplayer.so.

This is on CentOS 5.2.
