Default PC-BSD - Linux 8.0 review ...

http://www.itreviews.co.uk/software/s880.htm

Quote:
PC-BSD 8 is a Linux distribution whose installation process can safely be described as thorough. Whilst usable, as is increasingly the norm, as a live operating system (thus allowing you to boot it up from a disc and check it out without installing a single file on your hard drive), we opted for the full graphical installation, which is one of the selling points of the distro.
Welcome new Linux 'distro' on itreviews.co.uk

Since when is a BSD platform a Linux distribution?

That's sad, someone should report the article as misleading and grossly inaccurate.

To share some of my irritations: the lack of knowledge and understanding of something can - and should be - forgiven, as this is only a matter of learning. But the refusal to at least try to thoroughly investigate and understand what the matter is that you are discussing is what is irritating me everyday, again and again and again. 'Journalists' that don't take pride in their work, that just summarize a Reuter's message, I get headaches about it. I blame it on the lack of education, schools in the last 30 years having been reduced to in the end 'these are the operators to use in Google'.

I am sorry, but if you are just a user, it is Ok if you are confused or overwhelmed as part of the "learning curve", but we are not talking about "a user" here, we are talking about "a review". This is something completely different.

*EXTREMELY* basic research will reveal the fact that PCBSD is not Linux in *SECONDS*

First few lines from pcbsd.org startpage, the official PCBSD site:
Quote:
The PC-BSD Team is pleased to announce the availability of PC-BSD 8.0 (Hubble Edition), running FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE-P2, and KDE 4.3.5
On the about page:

Quote:
PC-BSD is a complete desktop operating system, which has been designed with the "casual" computer user in mind. It offers the stability and security that only a BSD-based operating system can bring
First line of wikipedia article for PC-BSD:

Quote:
PC-BSD is a Unix-like, desktop-oriented operating system based on FreeBSD.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, that was quite an error. Now corrected.

NB. This review originally and erroneously portrayed PC-BSD as being based on Linux, an embarrassing mistake for which the writer has been sent back to operating system school.
At least they have the guts to admit when they're wrong, unlike some other wildly inaccurate BSD reviewers from the past

Actually in all fairness, IMHO anyone whose done more research then, "Oh, I know, let's install LINUX today!", should have a basic understanding of the words UNIX, BSD, and Linux. We also all have our own blond moments ^_^.

Lol, the error may actually have done some good for PC-BSD's popularity (disguised as Linux). :-D
