It'll be even more difficult for open source driver developers to do things like modesetting for newer cards.. and clearly they won't be providing any documentation.

So, quite a lot has changed.. actually.

I'm not sure what to make of anything you just said Bill, how you can go on about the evilness of Microsoft and Apple.. but at the same time be content with Adobe's Flash?

Unlike Windows systems, Unix systems (..Linux,BSD/OSX) don't typically run random scripts off of external disks.

Most external hard drives attach as ordinary USB mass storage devices, some may have a virtual CD-ROM drive that includes Windows drivers/applications.. but that wouldn't be of any threat to alternative operating systems, just a nuisance.
