bwn/bwi drivers with Broadcom BCM4318
Any experiences of the bwn/bwi drivers with Broadcom BCM4318 based PCI wireless g NIC?
Have been fiddling with this for two days and have searched and read everything I could find. I have been using bwi, but the connection is very unreliable (not in front of the box now, but can post the output which appears in tty in several hours). I decided to try bwn as it uses a newer firmware (the 4.x firmware which I've used under GNU/Linux with no problems - I had problems with the earlier 3.x firmware so thought it might be related). After 4 hours yesterday I figured out how to get bwn to load the firmware (from /boot/loader.conf - when it tries to load the firmware itself, it fails) - rebooted and the connection finally came up - except bwn is even worse for disconnections - in fact it's unusable in my case. I had to switch back to bwi. I want to avoid messing with ndisgen and windows blobs, so if anyone has any experience of this or can point me in the right direction - much appreciated. Thanks |

I gave up and plugged in a wireless USB dongle which seems to work ok for now. Here's some details for anyone who's interested.
Code:
$ cat /etc/rc.conf # -- sysinstall generated deltas -- # Sun Aug 18 11:08:56 2013 # Created: Sun Aug 18 11:08:56 2013 # Enable network daemons for user convenience. # Please make all changes to this file, not to /etc/defaults/rc.conf. # This file now contains just the overrides from /etc/defaults/rc.conf. inetd_enable="NO" keymap="uk.iso" dbus_enable="YES" hald_enable="YES" wlans_rum0="wlan0" ifconfig_wlan0="WPA DHCP" Code:

Ah well end of thread. //edit4: Finally got 9.1 installed and the AR9227 is working well - the end. Last edited by caravel; 9th September 2013 at 11:01 AM. |

There's a chart on wikipedia that lists the available drivers for FreeBSD and if they depend on non-free firmware: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...rivers#FreeBSD
Just as a note, you might still run into an issue with the AR9227 card. https://wiki.freebsd.org/dev/ath_hal...ardwareSupport Quote:

Thanks, I read about the bug not long after ordering the AR9227, but so far I´ve had no problems.
