Default Installing ports offline

I'd like to download some bz2 source files over a fast connection, and use them to update a few of my ports on my dial-up-connected computer.

For example, I grab claws-mail-3.4.0.tar.bz2 (5MB, or two seconds on a fast connection, twenty minutes on dial up) and copy it to /usr/ports/mail/claws-mail/distfiles, then # make install clean, only cranking up the interweb if there are some relatively small depenedencies.

Is this possible / sensible ?

Well it depends, if you installed all the required dependencies, then yes, otherwise, no <= the if condition

You can use:
# make fetch-recursive
To fetch the distfiles for the port and all dependencies.

Thanks - but will cp'ing a downloaded source file into /distfiles do the trick ?

Yes, just copy all the files in /usr/ports/distfiles

I think that before making "make fetch-recursive" you must do a "make config-recursive" because new dependencies may arise after altering each port's defaults options.
