Default Thanked X times in X posts

I was curious about the "thanked X times in X posts" feature and thanked a couple of posters, then realized the following message appears in the thread:

The Following User Says Thank You to Nirbo For This Useful Post:
johnlvs2run (Yesterday)

Yikes! I'd rather not this be divulged who I'm thanking or not thanking.
Otherwise it puts the "thanks" rather on display and is also a bit big brotherish.
I'm hesitant about thanking anyone else, only because I'd rather this not show up in a thread.

Is it possible to change the thanks to not show up who is thanking whom and to not show up in the thread?
Also why not just show "thanked X times" rather than "X times in X posts". Comments welcome.

P.S. Feel free to thank me for this message.

What's the point of thanking someone if he/she doesn't know it?

the thanks can help you quickly spot the posts that others found helpful.

> I'd rather this not show up in a thread.

send the person a private message.

I think he wants to thank people anonymously.

I can see the point of this. Suppose I don't know something very very basic, for example, how to change my shell.
Now, ephemera answers a newcomer who asks that question. I'd like to thank him as well, however, I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know how to change my shell--or didn't, till ephemera's post. (I'm using ephemera because he's the last that posted in this thread.)

So, I could see the value of anonymous thanks. Of course, yes, you can send the person a PM too. Gee, maybe I should thank ephemera for that idea--naw, I'm an ungrateful wretch.

EDIT: Heh, I hadn't realized I've been thanked for stuff--have I posted something useful since these forums opened?

I think you have been thanked for your brevity.

Ok, Rod, since I owe you for that python toolbar, I'll let it pass.
Plus I'm afraid of your dogs.
