Default Ztupid question :-) What keyboard?

Hi all,

Ztupid question: what keyboard should I buy?

Elaboration: back in the nineties, Cherry made these really solid keyboards with decent 'clicks' (sound). Unfortunately, nowadays:
1. I can buy Cherry keyboards for around 100 EUR ();
2. I can buy either Logitech or Microsoft keyboards with a 'click' and a build as soft as a baby's skin (), meaning: not the what I consider 'decent' quality of 15 years ago.

Would anybody know a brand that still has te old decent 'click'?

You might look at keytronic as an alternative. I don't know if they're still any good, but I still use mine from 1990 and love it.

Most keyboards nowdays have membrane switches.

The old model M IBM keyboards had mechanical switches that are a joy to use.

They are still available

(It doesn't have numeric keyboard, btw, which I appreciate having integrated).

Thanks very much, this looks exactly what I am looking for; I'll see if they want to ship it to the old world at a fair price. Thanks again

Thanks. Judging from the look of their website they believe it is still 1991, and netscape is still the browser of choice

No, but seriously, they don't ship outside the US I see.

Thanks again

It's the same keyboard as on the thinkpad laptops, it's actually quite good. lightweight and thin doesn't necessarily have to spell out cheap crap.
I also like the trackpoint ...

But yeah, it's certainly very different from the model M "click" experience. I have one of those at work by the way and it's pretty good too.

In the end, I would say a keyboard (such as) the thinkpad keyboard is more efficient though, because you don't have to press down as hard or far ... And I guess your coworkers will also like you more

The info page says they support international sales
http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/info.html

Quote:
International Sales

Products shipped outside the United States carry the same warranty as all products. However, after the first 30 days, international customers are responsible for shipping charges to and from our manufacturing location located in Lexington, Kentucky.
I have also heard good things about the Keytronic Lifetime series but have not personally used one.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823131040

The IBM model M is pricey but the first one I bought is still working after outlasting 5 mobo's.
The only reason I bought a second one was because beige was no longer in vogue ;-)

Just buy a decent Model M style keyboard. You can't go far wrong with one of those.

I have been using an old HP variant (extra www button, etc). It's durable enough that I could chuck it off the roof and have to land my 60+ kg arse on it before it would break. Needs cleaning but otherwise rocks.

I just learned shipment costs of an M-keyboard are higher than the cost of the keyboard itself

(I tend to be suspicious by nature: 'we advertise a low price for the product itself, and we'll get our profit margin by charging ridiculous shipment costs' ).

M-keyboard: you're out.
