Default OpenBSD platform comparison

http://devio.us/~scarlett/platforms.html

I'm trying to focus on differences that matter to users and userland C programmers instead of pointing out the many low-level quirks.

Some differences are because the hardware simply doesn't do that, others are because "nobody has done the work".

Loongson SMP will apparently be yes soon.

That was actually an interesting post. Are you sure that IP30 is the only SGI platform which supported in SMP mode? I would swear that for the past 2-3 OpenBSD worked in SMP mode on all tested machines including some of monster Origin 3000 (second only to IRIX).

@admins
Could we have this as a sticky post?

My first clue was sgi.html, "Multiprocessor operation is supported." is only mentioned under "IP30 (Octane a.k.a Speedracer) family".

The author wrote a paper and presentation about its implementation:

http://www.openbsd.org/papers/asiabs...mp_for_sgi.pdf
http://www.openbsd.org/papers/asiabs..._sgi_paper.pdf

There's only a MP kernel for IP30 in snapshots.

The Octane is actually my favourite sgi machine, there's just something about it...
