Questions:

  1. Have you changed the root user's login shell?

If so, return the shell to the default /bin/ksh, and try su(1) again.
  2. Have you altered /etc/login.conf?

If altered, what did you change?
  3. Three weeks ago, you posted a 5.8-release/amd64 dmesg(8). Are you still using amd64? And are you running 6.0-release, -release+errata, -stable, or -current?

Please post your dmesg(8), which will answer all of those questions.

I'm wondering if you upgraded and forgot to edit /etc/fstab?

If that is the case, you need to edit /etc/fstab as described in the 5.9 -> 6.0 Upgrade Guide. If you started with 5.8 and did not follow the upgrade guides there will likely be other problems.

philo_neo71, I see the problem. The su(1) and login_passwd(8) both have set-user-ID bits enabled in their file modes. Their file mode strings in ls(1) are shown as -r-sr-xr-x.

You have disabled set-user-ID with "nosuid" for the /usr filesystem in your /etc/fstab. That is a mistake. The mount(8) man page says:
Code:
nosuid Do not allow set-user-identifier or set-group-
          identifier bits to take effect.

I think you need to change the line
Code:
26825895ff29e85d.f /usr/ ffs rw,nodev,nosuid 1 2
Maybe with something like :
Code:
26825895ff29e85d.f /usr ffs rw,nodev 1 2
