Default WIFI card compatibility.

Hi. A client came to me with a laptop that he wanted me to install openbsd or netbsd. But the built-in wifi card is fubar which means that I have to put a new one in it, but I can only choose between these wifi-n card:
Broadcom 4313 wifi+bt
Atheros 9485 wifi+bt
Realtek rtl8188ceb8 wifi+bt
Intel 7260 wifi+bt
Ralink rt3590 wifi+bt
I can't put any other make or model because of the BIOS-based DRM HP uses.
And wanted to know, before buying any of this cards. Which one(s) from that list is compatible with OpenBSD or NetBSD?
TIA.

OpenBSD's list of supported devices can be found here. Two notes:
  • The list of devices has man page links, each of those will list the specific supported chipsets. The man pages links will be for -current, the development branch. If you plan to install the most recent release, be sure to select OpenBSD-5.5 from the menu at the top of each man page.
  • OpenBSD does not support Bluetooth; none of the BT hardware you have selected can be used with this OS.

As far as I know Realtek RTL8188CE is entirely unsupported on either OS.

Would a USB WiFi adapter, instead of internal card, be a possibility?

I am not clear as to whether you have the requirement that 802.11n be supported, but OpenBSD does not provide compatibility at this time. ie.

It's not the "n" part that I require. It's just that the laptop ONLY WORKS with the cards I listed in the OP.
If I install a wifi card that is not in that list when I turn the laptop on. I get this error message

And the PC plain refuses to go past the BIOS. Here is a more detailed explanation of the issue.
http://donovan6000.blogspot.com/2013...hitelists.html.
I tested it by installing the wifi card from my Asus Eeepc 1015px Hackintosh NetBook (a Broadcom BCM94352HMB wifi-ac+bt) and from my Acer AMD e-350 all-in-one PC (a ralink rt61 wifi-g) and it showed the above pictured error with both cards which are known to work and I can put in anyone of those PC's (I can put the Acer's wifi on the Asus PC and viseversa and both cards work fine on both PC's).

I wonder if a USB attached device would avoid HP's whitelist restrictions.

That is sad About year ago we got two Think Pads x230 for our Lab. I (as a long, long time Think Pad user) can just say they are peace of shit. I honestly don't know what laptop even one can buy these days if any.

Asus, Toshiba, Acer. Those are what I heard and/or owned that I know doesn't have that idiotic BIOS whitelist.
