ctorrent is not dead. the original project was forked, under the same name and is still very much alive. The developer incorporated many of my suggestions and is very responsive and actively improving it.

Yes I know, but a fork is a fork. They call it enhanced ctorrent: http://www.rahul.net/dholmes/ctorrent/ ... many bugfix releases.

So what? You said rtorrent is better because ctorrent is dead. ctorrent isn't dead. That's all you need to know. Nobody cares who's forking whom.

While not 100% focused on torrents... I suggest MLDonkey. I use it for both torrents and ed2k and like it namely for being able to access it via web browser (MLDonkey can ran a small webserver).
Before MLDonkey I was a heavy user of rtorrent. Small, light and the perfect combination for screen and ssh. Transmission CLI seems appealing from what I've heard and I'd probably look at it if I didn't' prefer the ed2k network. I dropped an How-To setup MLDonkey if anyone is interested.

I'm also having lags on FreeBSD-7.1-p1 with rTorrent 0.8.4/libTorrent 0.12.4. Every time when i download at speeds like 5 MB/s++ it starts lagging for a few seconds when rTorrent is writing the data from RAM to my GELI encrypted disk. Is there some sort of option to make rTorrent write finished chunks directly to disk like µTorrent does ?
