Default How do I start kde4?

Hi all,

recently (5 minutes ago) installed KDE4 from packages (yah yah, I know. But did not want to wait hours to complete)

The installation completed without errors, but what next? startkde is not there kdm is not there, I am a little but surprised?

KDE4 has a new directory layout. See /usr/local/kde4/ ...

kdm and startkde are in the bin directory.

Yah, it was the path problem. Why not in /usr/local/bin? Oh well... It it too buggy anyway, dumped after five minutes?

It worked well for me (KDE4 from package, on 8-CUR), but I find it too clunky and slow, even without the eye candy. Don't use 95% of the included stuff anyway. Window managers are good enough for me.

tbh, with the huge size of KDE and Gnome, I think /usr/local/kde4 is a great idea -- especially if you want to use kde3 and kde4 on the same machine or take backups of kde.

Just like /usr/local/texlive/2007 when using the default from the TexLive DVD, it's just a smart idea.
