Default LibreOffice crashes when run without a file to open

This bug was reported to the Document Foundation bugzilla. They don't have time. Has nobody else seen this?

Code:
Description Edward Ahlsen-Girard 2016-12-31 00:37:43 UTC

Description:
If LibreOffice is opened from the command line or from the cwm start menu, it displays a dialog box to the effect that due to an unexpected error, LibreOffice crashed, that documents that had been open will be recovered. In the case when there had not be a real crash, the are no files in the list to choose recovery for. Closing the dialog box ends the program. If the command line is used, this error appears in the terminal window:
Warning: failed to launch javaldx - java may not function correctly

A dmesg (sanitized) is included.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run soffice without a filename as an argument.
2. Wait.
3. It will come

Actual Results:
Crashes: can only be run by opening a document

Expected Results:
crashed, had to open a document

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Comment 2 Buovjaga 2017-01-03 19:58:52 UTC

I got some feedback from #openbsd IRC channel @ Freenode:
is that related to wxallowed? https://www.openbsd.org/faq/upgrade60.html

Edward: can you check if that change to wxallowed mount option is the cause?

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to UNCONFIRMED, if not. Change to RESOLVED NOTABUG, if you solved it.

Comment 3 Buovjaga 2017-01-03 20:06:15 UTC

Apparently it can't be because of wxallowed because dmesg after crash should show if it's a w^x violation. Additionally, output of mount should show if wxallowed is present.

A further advice was given: update to the latest snapshot, and package, pkg_add -u

Comment 4 Edward Ahlsen-Girard 2017-01-04 02:57:26 UTC

I'll try the new snapshot and get back.

The notion that wxallowed mount is required is surprising, since there is no error if a file is passed as a startup argument: why would that just that one code path in the whole application be the problem?

Comment 5 Edward Ahlsen-Girard 2017-01-04 02:58:52 UTC

In any event, /usr/local is mounted wxallowed.

Comment 6 Edward Ahlsen-Girard 2017-01-04 11:10:18 UTC

New snao and pkg_add -u, no change.

Comment 7 Buovjaga 2017-01-05 11:44:02 UTC

Ok, maybe you could try seeking for testers on #openbsd @ Freenode or some other gathering-place of OpenBSD folks.
I don't have time to install OpenBSD in a VM right now to test this..

Currently the proper channel to report bugs with ports is to the port's maintainer, if one is assigned, or to the ports@ mailing list if one is not assigned or if you cannot reach the maintainer.

You can obtain the maintainer's name and Email address with:
$ pkg_info libreoffice
You may have been caught in the recent python transition; you are running -current and -current is a constantly moving target.

True, but I've had the problem since October.

Report to ports and to robert@.

I saw a posted reply with a circumvention, to remove the local user configuration. Did you try moving or deleting it, and if so, did it alleviate the problem?

I've been seeing this error message with libreoffice (no crash) for years (literally). I just ignore it and libreoffice seems to work normally. The suggested fix doesn't work for me.

After some more research on duckduckgo I installed the package libreoffice-java. The warning has now gone away.

I've done that, and the problem goes away for the first restart, but always comes back.

The javaldx plugin is optional, for those who need to run java scripts. I doubt it has anything to do with this particular problem.

I'm running a recent snapshot on amd64 and cannot reproduce the problem. Libreoffice runs fine here from a shell without producing the crash girarde has reported.

I'm sorry this is a continuing problem for you. As noted, I could not replicate your problem.

If you have sufficient time, interest, skill, and hardware resources to build libreoffice from source, you may be able to build the debug flavor of the port and debug with gdb(1) or devel/gdb. That flavor of the port builds libreoffice with the --enable-debug flag.

Last edited by jggimi; 10th January 2017 at 12:58 AM. Reason: two versions of gdb noted

Thanks. I may, but in all honesty probably won't, get to that any time soon.
