xterm support 88 and 256 colors, I use elinks & vim in such setup
Konsole support true color modes(but eats much of RAM).

cmd anyone? just kidding.

I choose Konsole because it's right there in KDE with tabbed support (nice when standing in the datacenter cage needing to be logged into 4 or 5 routers concurrently without cluttering your 15" display real estate) and if I'm really hot-to-trot about using the command line, I don't really use any X functionality in the first place... I just kill X and get back to the prompt.

Screen works very well for this.

I use xterm with Screen on FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris. On Mac OS X, I also use Terminal (Mac Terminal), which is a little limited color-wise, but it runs quite well.

In decreasing order geany (vte), rox-term (vte and tabs + other goodies), xfce Terminal.

Shame on me, rarely use vim and never emacs.
