Default What about FreeBSD's RAID-5?

Hello,

As anybody tried FreeBSD's RAID-5?

What about the performance?

What about dealing with a defective hard drive? Is it as simple as with gmirror?

Is it very CPU intensive?

Thanks for any insights!

graid5 is not yet production ready. AFAIK, it hasn't even been officially added to the source tree, and it just available as a set of patches.

I know I should not compare graid5 to zfs' zpool but, if I need something reliable which one should I "try" in production?

ZFS is available in FreeBSD 7.x, graid5 is not. Seems pretty easy to figure out which one to use.

If you decide to go with ZFS, you'll want to run 7-STABLE (tag=RELENG_7) and then move to 7.1 once it's released (RELENG_7_1).
