Post disabled cardbus?

Dell Latitude D600, works beautifully.
i've been running obsd on various machines around the house since 2.8.
with the phasing out of windows 2000 happening early this summer and some of the [major] exploits suffacing this year i'm moving to convert my entire home lan to *nix.
these last 2 weeks i have installed slackware, debian, crux, and gentoo linux. none of these worked as well right out of the box as openbsd 4.6, the only problem i have anymore is with my cardbus being [disabled?] same problem as the guy with the D400 has. i'm going to look into this more as it will enable an acx wireless device i own.
i'm specifically working with fvwm + mrxvt, and firefox/vlc. i don't see the need for anything else really. if anyone has an 'official' word on enabling this cardbus let me know -- i'm a newb 2 kernel mods even if it is just removing #'s from source.

here is my dmesg output for anyone curious
Code:
linksys wusb600n [ralink] run0
bwi0 on board broadcom wifi
acx -> not available/visible without cardbus support

The hardware thread in which you responded is intended as general information. Your request for support will get lost within it, & I have split you message away to focus on your compatibility questions.

From the dmesg(8) output provided:
Code:
"O2Micro, SmartCardBus Reader, V1.0" at pcmcia1 function 0 not configured
Messages emitted by the OpenBSD 4.6 kernel are stating that while the cardbus reader hardware has been identified, no driver has been found which is compatible with the its hardware signature. This is the meaning of "not configured" displayed above.

The problem is that the hardware offering cardbus support has not been configured. However, the run(4) driver would be able to recognize the card itself.

As for solutions, nothing obvious is indicated. You might want to try installing a snapshot of -current to see if newer development now recognizes your hardware, but I have no knowledge of whether this will lead to a successful result. Snapshots of -current are installed in the same manner as -release, & reviewing the information found in Section 4 of the FAQ is always a good idea.

If you are puzzled by the differences between -release & -current, studying Section 5.1 will help clear up any ambiguity.

anyways, thank you for giving this attention as promptly as you did ocio. i'm going to have to go back home and dig the d400 cardbus dmesg thread out of my history.
the guy had a pci enum hack for the kernel? or something, it was in the obsd laptop threads precursor. and thank you for the suggestion to move into -stable, i will most certainly do so. i'm kind've saddened to see that some of the obsd dev's frown @ virtuabox support, but i certainly understand the [sort of] anti-vmware/virtuabox/wine threads that im seeing here. i love this os, even way back when the installer was _archaic_ thanks again ';]
