Default Using haskell's cabal on OpenBSD 6.2

I came across Deftly.net's guide to Using cabal on OpenBSD because many of my workflows involve pandoc, and I don't yet have the chops to port pandoc myself. You'll be able to install other haskell-based tools as well after following this guide.

It works for me, so I hope others find it useful as well.

Why don't you ask him? He's a developer, after all.

I didn't want to bug the guy since he doesn't know me from Adam and I can't spare cash to pay him for the effort. I'm still an OpenBSD newbie, so I figure I should tread lightly and not ask too much of others.

Besides, this method scratches my itch. I just wanted pandoc. An official port would be nice, but installing through cabal works too.

What, just now? If he needs help testing it next weekend I'll be happy to help out.

Yeah, it's almost as if he's a friend of mine and I can just ping him on IRC whenever I want.

He told me no lol. Actually, he said that it's littered with dependencies and that cabal's management of them isn't so good. He said if it were like how go does things, then he'd reconsider.

Fair enough. To be honest, the method he provided on his website is fine for my use case. It's just me and sometimes my wife using my machines, and she doesn't install software herself. Her (quite sensible) opinion is that if our household needs more than one amateur sysadmin, I should train one of the cats.

The problem is that they can't even pronounce the name of the OS correctly. They can barely manage to call it "mewnix".
