I don't use OpenBSD bu perhaps you could add more persian or farsi fonts to your system? Maybe there is something wrong with mstcorefonts?

For Xft/fontconfig aware software, it's usually possible to tune what text looks like to some extent using a fonts.conf file. Fontconfig and Vermaden both have docs worth looking into.

In my experiences with X, some types of fonts just suck period.

I think the number of people here using Farsi or Persian fonts are very few indeed, if there any (excluding you) at all.

Using google I found a few links which may be useful, for example http://www.farsiweb.ir/wiki/Free_Products has a free Farsi font.

The msttcorefonts package is nothing more than a distribution of a previously available open distribution of the Microsoft TrueType core font set. It does not contain Farsi:

You can also copy fonts from FreeBSD to the TTF location of OpenBSD and then just refresh fontconfig settings. You can BTW use any TTF fonts if you want.

You can set fonts in Opera by going to Tools -> Preferences -> Fonts -> International fonts.
Then select your writing system (Arabic?) and try out a few different fonts that are available.

On my Windows 7 system, Times new roman provides a fairly nice looking Arabic font btw.
