Default ArabBSD

ArabBSD is a project which aims to provide infrastructure for the most reliable and secured operating system FreeBSD - which is BSD Family Member-. We aim to have our own Arab Operating System developers soon starting from the analysis of FreeBSD infrastructure, block diagram formulation and call for research groups within each field. Anyone who is interesting in operating systems and their news can join us. They will keep up with OS. OS is about everything in life containing all the types of programming. You can develop in the kernel and you can use this Operating System as a virtual environment for your project.

Message from the project manager of the ArabBSD:

First of All, I thank you for discussing our project ArabBSD. I introduce myself, Mohammed Farrag, ArabBSD Project Manager and FreeBSD Contributor. We have a project to extend FreeBSD in Arab world. We aim to work in two direction. First, we will translate FreeBSD Documentation and learning tutorials to Arabic. Second, we will have summer training for starting work on FreeBSD development. I would like if you advised me to push our project up rather than criticizing the project. I know there are many unsuitable things in the website and I am working to fix it. The website will be provided in both Arabic and English. About the images in the website, it's problem with the Google sites to align them and I will try to fix it soon. We aim to provide such infrastructure for beginners to be professional. The community has no enough time for beginner and we face lack of resources in Arab World due to the fact of Language and geographic obstacles So, our project is trying to help those ones who wanna develop in the project to start learning and make them able to contribute in the project. Any comments/ suggestions are very welcome.

Regards,
Mohammed

Linux is not UNIX! Face it! It is not an insult. It is fact: GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not UNIX”.

I don't understand, what is the goal of ArabBSD?

Their site is spectacularly bad by the way. For a moment I had to check the date because I had a feeling I was accidentally transported back to 1997.

@Carpetsmoker

Best guess is supply Arabic speakers with a system customized to suit there needs from reading/writing etc, may be add a thing or two to make it special; just like Sabily Linux which is basically a customized Ubuntu with extras

that was a shot in the dark any way

The use of large images unscaled is very annoying habit, and it doesn't fit well with my screen resolution.

A project specifically for a particular race of human beings is a little odd, perhaps someone should create one for Caucasians as well?

EDIT: Anyone else notice the presumably illegal "keymaker" links on the "Start FreeBSD" page?

@BSDfan666

well, if that theory is correct; then he made the right choice.

http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats19.htm

he is directing his work to a very large majority of the human race.

In my opinion the sites content is dated and not very accurate. The comparison table contains the 2.4 linux kernel, ext2 filesystems and seems to misrepresent the place of GNU in the scheme of both BSD's and Linux.

*SIGHS*

Guys seriously I do not ever give a damn about FreeBSD it self with all the respect to those who live and die by FreeBSD.

This is a startup project and apparently a one man show *tell now*, so it's either you 'm some love or f... fly away

LOL @ comparing FreeBSD to Windows 2000. Are they serious?

I blame Ubuntu. That is where all this roll your own distro for niche audiences fad started.

I applaud his ambition and dreams but question the direction of his efforts. FreeBSD has contributors from every major continent save Antarctica and I would not be suprised if FreeBSD has been run at the bottom of the World in a research project.

I wonder if the Arab community considers the Translations adequate and if that might be a better direction for his efforts.

You got that one correct!

I have this friend who is younger than me by 5 years and he is the one that got me started with all the BSD world, I left him from like 3-4 years ago with him being on the translation team for FreeBSD; now since then I have not hear from him at all so I do not know wither he did any thing or left off.

I am on the OpenBSD translation team and I am the only one who speak Arabic who joined them, but; upon my request I have my account disabled tell I devote more time....there is already like 5-6 files translated from like 188 (heh, that was 4.8) :| any way....I do translate stuff all the time and frankly I see it as one of the keys to success...it's all about time and availability.

to be back on track, that guy....I do not know what he have in mind; but sure thing I wish him all best.

I wasn't intending to be racist, I was in fact, asking why each subculture of human society needed a separate BSD group.. I didn't realize it was a translation group, I thought it was a group based on race alone, which I thought was racist, segregationist and counterintuitive.

One of the board administrators "warned" me for this, if there was any confusion I apologize..

There is still however the issue of the keygens being hosted on that site, linking to it on these forums.. however indirectly, could be a problem.

@BSDfan666

No worries, I also tried to explain such a need for such a project and that's nothing new; when Sabily Linux hit the net we saw the buzz it made and I as an Arabic speaker kept my eyes very close to it just to make up my mind about this whole thing and I ended agreeing.

so again, no worries

Cheers mate
