Default Resizing FreeBSD partition

Well first off hello people just installed FreeBSD for the first time a couple days ago and I'm really liking it. I have a few questions though which as the title suggests have to do with FreeBSD partitions. When I installed FreeBSD I just let it take over my whole hard drive but I've also been wanting to install Slackware and test it out only problem is that I can't figure out how to shrink FreeBSD in order to clear up some free space for slack. Unfortunately all the sites that I've visited say that you can't shrink a FreeBSD partition without wiping it and then restoring it although you can enlarge it through growfs. The only reason I'm asking was because a lot of those webpages were old from like 2002 so I was wondering if things have changed at all or do I still have to wipe the hard drive install slack and do a reinstallation of FreeBSD?

As far as I know you can't ... Even growfs is experimental.
UNIX was not designed to stop you from doing stupid things, because that would also stop you from doing clever things.

0/ backup system to external media

1/ create the necessary slices, partitions, and file systems (destroying existing system)

2/ restore freebsd files and install slackware

3/ setup suitable booting environment
