Could anyone give me a guide to setting up xfce as my desktop. Doing a new system setup, thanks.

Was the mouse moving before you installed xfce?
Was moused_enable set up in /etc/rc.conf by the installer and if so have you tried disabling it? Are you using dbus and hal as the xorg instructions in the handbook suggested and are they correctly enabled in /etc/rc.conf. If you chose to not use dbus/hal you can search these forums for the work around in the xorg.conf

The mouse was functioning during install test. However, I'll have a look at /etc/rc.conf
