openbsdjumpstart.org "learn to tame openbsd quickly"
Recently a new openbsd website was created: openbsdjumpstart.org
The website presents a short introduction course in order to "learn to tame openbsd quickly". Perhaps the graphic design could be considered overkill by some. However the html source is actually quite clean, and also renders fine in text-only browsers, and also on mobile devices. Personally, I think it provides a good short summary to get some-one started with openbsd and refers to all the relevant man sections or the online resources at the openbsd.org website. I guess the only thing missing on slide 35 "need more help" is mentioning the openbsd section at daemonforums.org ;-) |

Actually you are right.
Just like jump-start means: to start quickly by using some external help (device). So perhaps the subtitle could have been "Getting started with OpenBSD quickly" or "Getting started with taming OpenBSD". After reading this short introduction you will certainly not completely master OpenBSD. That requires a lot more effort, such as reading man pages and the OpenBSD FAQ. The books page at the openbsd website is also quite a useful resource with getting started with BSD in general of more specifically OpenBSD. Strangely enough the front page of the website does not link to the books page. Last edited by slowtechstef; 6th January 2016 at 12:49 PM. |

When started learning OpenBSD in the early 2000's, I only had internet access through an ISDN 64000 baud connection. I downloaded the complete OpenBSD FAQ, printed the whole thing and studied it.
This is how I 'tamed' OpenBSD
