Question atheros AR5424

i have some problem when working with atheros wireless chipset on my laptop. if i use this command :

ifconfig ath0 ip_addr netmask net_mask
then on dmesg give error :

Code:
ath0: unable to reset hardware; hal status 3560783048
if i use this command :

Code:
ifconfig ath0 scan
then my laptop goes freeze....

anyone have solution for this problem???
i had googling until now but not find any documentation for that problem... thank a lot for your attention.

The card is unsupported. On my laptop, the kernel panics when I try and do a scan with an AR5424 card.

Simplest solution is to use a different distro (ubuntu has reasonable support out of the box as far as I know) or buy a more compatible wifi card.

Well, if you want to help, you can by emailing atheros and asking them to provide documentation for the chip. You could also donate your card to the openbsd project (because it's not working in openbsd anyway, right?) if you feel like it.

I think he can't donate the card since it's likelly to be soldered in his laptop's mainboard.

Why so? I've never seen a wifi card soldered to a motherboard - they've always been in Mini-PCI or (more recently) Mini-PCI-Express format.
